He first built his fine reputation around Pinellas County and beyond as a portrait artist, creating lush, detailed likenesses that captured the spirit and splendor of his subjects. He later developed his professional caricature skills and discovered how fun and funny art can be. He is responsible for many funny faces smiling out from local business advertisements such as those on the Crabby Bill restaurant chain. The National Caricaturist Network honored Dan with its prestigious “Silver Nosey” award for second best overall body of work at its 1998 national competition in Las Vegas, and consistently ranked him among its top 10 artists in successive annual competitions. The Florida Press Association has honored him with awards each of the past six years for excellence in political cartooning for the weekly cartoon he creates for the Tampa Bay Newspapers. His humorous coverage of national, state and local issues is printed in six editions of the paper around Pinellas County with a circulation of 123,000. Dan also creates incredibly detailed custom caricatures for gifts and corporate awards. At your private party or corporate event, he can draw 12 faces an hour with pen and watercolor, giving every guest a polished souvenir of the event.
A graduate of the Cincinnati Art Academy, Dan has been a Tampa Bay resident for more than 40 years, where he helped raise five daughters and now has found new models among his five fine grandsons and three gorgeous granddaughters. Although he has been a longtime Indian Rocks Beach dweller, he now resides in Largo. Dan’s work speaks for itself. Browse his photo galleries to judge for yourself.
